Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Native Peoples Globally: Mapping and Big Data

I am wondering this morning after opening up the front page of the New York Times newspaper and seeing this advertisement for IBM’s Watson AI platform to what extent will people be able to control their own resources from renewable resources?  The key seems to be land and wind and solar energy are in abundance and free.  It would be interesting to try to follow the lessons in this YouTube video to create a set of graphics for an article about helping people learn how to harness the data on solar and wind energy fluxes to plan renewable energy development and make forecasts for with the aim of maximizing the quantity of people that can be helped by efforts in training.  I am really interested in learning about the culture of the Lakota Sioux this week in an effort to help them.  In this regard, today I am working on writing a nice email message to Trees, Water, People.  I want to just listen and learn for a while as a volunteer with their work.  I have an old climbing friend in Fort Collins who I wrote yesterday.  This whole path captured in the last blog post has got me excited about getting outside and working hard physically again.  I cannot want to run today and workout in preparation for climbing again soon.  I want to help Native people globally protect their land from global satellite surveillance and help them make decisions.  This is a really cool path and exciting.

I am a Berkeley educated chemistry Ph.D. who is moving into the area of working on developing appropriate technology for communities that are subjected to socio-economic oppression. The goal is to use simple and effective designs to empower people to live better lives. Currently, I am working with Native Americans on Pine Ridge, the Lakota reservation in South Dakota. I am working with a Native owned and run solar energy company. We are currently working on building a compressed earth block (CEB) house that showcases many of the technologies that the company has developed. The CEB house is made of locally derived resources, earth from the reservation. The blocks are naturally thermally insulating, keeping the house cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Eventually, a solar air heater and photovoltaic panels will be installed into the house to power the home and keep it warm, while preserving the house off the grid. A side project while in Pine Ridge is a solar computer. I hope to learn about blockchain encryption software for building microgrids. In addition, it is an immediate interest of mine to involve local youth in technology education.
